I don't know what year this was made, but I'm guessing late 70's. The design borrowed heavily from the RB-800 of the day, but with a Cremona finish that avoided the cherry red of the RB-800.3 day satisfaction guarantee--if you're not happy with it, send it back! .

VINTAGE Iida Model 227 5-string Archtop Resonator Banjo!This is a 1972 resonator 5-string archtop banjo Made in Japan by Iida (sometimes incorrectly referred to as Jida or Lida). Supercharge your practice!
This banjo is in very good condition (not mint), with gold-plated metal that is in good condition with a small amount of aging with a new top frosted head, tailpiece and armrest. But those are there and are the most serious issues.

I mentioned the neck has been repaired and there are two visible repairs. Some of the interesting things to see in this church is a painting of Saint Francis, as a reminder that the church is a former monastery church of the Order of Franciscan Monks. This one features a fully-aluminum pot with integrated archtop-style tonering.

The mahogany resonator features some lovely rope binding on the top lip. Style I - same as BV except for 70's style RB-250 inlay.
I bought an RB800 from Curtis McPeake & was more than happy with it however I am a big Stanleytone fan so wanted an archtop(unfortunately am unlikely to ever be able to afford one) so the Iida seemed like a good bet for the moneyI was so impressed with the Iida I stopped playing the RB800 so sold it. Excellent items are almost entirely free from blemishes and other visual defects and have been played or used with the utmost care.
Tailpiece plating is bubbling, a little corrosion on pot. There is also some rope binding on the top lip of the resonator which is another nice touch. Take your playing to the next level with the help of a local or online banjo teacher. The tailpiece is Waverly-style (like Gibson used in the 50's and 60's) and nickel plated. Bacon (6)

This was Iidas top of the line during a time when Japanese banjos were in their heyday.
In the banjo pictured above ( which looks like my 229T except it has 5 strings) The tone ring is outlined as the round raised portion within the larger circle of the rim, which is also aluminum. While walking around old town, The church devoted to St.Nicholaus can catch suddenly your eyes. Every instrument is carefully set up and inspected prior to being shipped.
According to their catalogue specs, these were handmade banjos under the supervision of Teruo Iida. 5-String Resonator,

Oops, looks like you forgot something. Fleur-de-lis inlay in headstock and pearloid blockish inlays in the fingerboard. 'Dominant Seventh Chord D position - Help!' I would recomend this banjo for someone starting out.It is not a Stelling or a Gibson but it will get the job done.If it is stolen then I will have to get my Stelling Red Fox..untill then I will keep pickin on my 229 Iida!
